VISITING BALI
There were so many … (1) to see in Bali that my friend decided to join the …  2)  surfing on Kuta beach. He visited some tour agents and selected 2-day-tour. The first one was to Singaraja, the second was to Ubud.
On the day of the tour, he was ready. My friend and his group drove on through mountains. Singaraja is a city of about 90 thousands people. It is a busy but …. (3). The streets are lined with trees and there are many old …. (4). Then they returned very late in the … (5) to Kuta.

RESCUE WORKERS SAVED FOUR PEOPLE
             Rescue workers pulled a man, a woman, and two children from this cold, rushing water.  The mother and her two daughters got into trouble first.  Their car drove off the road into the water.  The man, a truck driver, almost died when he tried to save them.
             The trouble started when Mrs. Leslie Cady  lost control of the car on a winding mountain road.  The car fell down thirty feet from the road into the water.  It rolled over once  and landed right side up in the rushing water.  All three people were wearing their sit belts.  Nobody was hurt by the fall.  However, they couldn’t leave the car.  The water outside was too cold and too fast for safe swimming.
             The rescue started almost immediately.  Another driver told the police about the trouble.  The police called special rescue workers and a truck to pull the car out.
             The driver of the truck, Paul Ruter, arrived before the other rescue workers.  Immediately he took a rope  from his truck and he began to walk through the rushing water to the car..  Then he got into trouble, too.  The water was too fast , the ground  was slippery and he got caught in the ropes.  He went under the water by the car.  Mrs. Cady saw him and reached for his hand.  She pulled  as hard as she could and brought him to the car door.
              Next the other rescue workers arrived.  They put on special suits to stay warm.  They brought safety ropes, like jackets, tire tubes, and warm blankets.  First they pulled the people out of the back window onto the top of the car.  Then they swam with each person to shore.  They saved Mr. Ruter, Mrs. Cady, and the little girls.
              Finally all the people went to the hospital.  Nobody was hurt badly.  The rescue workers  said that they all were very lucky to be alive.

          The three friends have known each other for many years.  They have been neighbors since they were children.  Ralph has lived next door to Stella and Tom for fifteen years.  They have grown up together, they have gone  to school together, and they’ve visited each other almost every day.
         Stella and Ralph have been an important part of each other’s lives, so it’s difficult to say good-bye.  They have studied journalism together, and they have worked as reporters  for a small town news paper.  Now Ralph has a job working  for a big city newspaper 500 kilometers away.  Ralph and Stella will miss each other very much, but Ralph will come home again on his vacations.

    Kyle Elliot Korver[1] (born March 17, 1981) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).     Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, on June 25, 1936. He is the fouth of eight children in his family. His parents are Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and RA. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. Habibie married Hasri Ainun Habibie on May 12, 1962. He has 2 sons. They are Ilham Akbar dan Thareq Kemal. He spent his childhood with his brothers and sisters in Pare-Pare. His faithful and persistent characteristics have been shown since he was a kid. Habibie’s hobby is riding horse and reading book. He is well-known as smart child when he was in elementary school.
    After his father died, his mother sold their house and moved to Bandung. Her mother worked hard to afford their life. When he was in senior high school, Habibie showed his great achievement, especially in science subjects. He became a favorite student at school. After he graduated from high school, he continued his study in Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). During his study in ITB, he got a scholarship from the government to study abroad. Then, he continued his study in Germany. When he arrived in Germany, he determined to be successful because he remembered the struggle of his parents to afford his course cost and his daily life. Several years later, in 1955, almost all of the Indonesian students got full scholarship. He was the only one who held green passport among his friends. For him, holiday season is not holiday. That was a gold chance to make money for buying books and having examination. After holiday, all activities were suspended, except studying.That habit was different from his friends who didn’t take any examination in the holiday.
    He graduated in 1960 with cumlaude predicate and average score 9.5. Then, he applied a job in Firma Talbot, an industry company of train. TA that time, Talboot needed 100o carriage to carry light but big stuff. Dealing with that problem, Habibie applied some ways in making the construction of plane wings and finally he was successful to apply that.
    After that, he continued his doctoral degree in in Technische Hochschule Die Facultaet Fuer Maschinenwesen Aachean and Hasri Ainun Habibie in 1962. After the wedding ceremony, he brought Ainun to Germany. His life was getting tougher. In the morning, he must have walked fast to work and his wife washed the clothes in the public washing place to save money, and in the evening he studied. In1965, he finished his doctoral degree with summa cumlaude predicate and average score 10. Habibie was also the first Asian person who had high position in plane industry of Germany.
    When he came back to Indonesia, he applied his knowledge and experiences that he got during his life in Germany to build plane industry in Indonesia. After three years he lived in Indonesia, he got Professor title from ITB. Then, he became the minister of research and technology for 20 years. On March 11, 1998, Habibie was elected as the 7th vice president of Indonesia by the decision of parliamentary session.

    At that time, there was a crisis which made many people hold demonstration. President Soeharto was asked to step down from his position by the society and Habibie was pointed as the 3rd president of Indonesia as it was ruled in 1945 constitution number 8. In his short presidency, he was able to save Indonesia from the crisis.

    R.A Kartini

    One of very famous female figures in Indonesia is Raden Ajeng Kartini. She is also commonly known as R.A Kartini.
    She is known as one of the national hero determined to fight for the emancipation of women.
    R.A Kartini was born on April 21st 1879 in Jepara. Since the number of services and struggle for people of Indonesia, the day of her birth was celebrated as Kartini Day.
    Kartini was born in a noble family so she earned R.A (Raden Ajeng) in front of her name. According to Javanese tradition the title used before she got married, while after marriage then knighted used is R.A (Raden Ayu).
    Her father named R.M. Sosroningrat is a son of Prince Ario Tjondronegoro IV. At that time, Kartini’s father was a regent in Jepara and an honorable man.
    Kartini’s mother named M.A. Ngasirah was the son of ‘Kyai’ / religion teacher in Telukawur, Jepara. She was not highborn, but just ordinary people.
    That’s what makes R.A Kartini must have a stepmother. This is because the Dutch colonial rule requires a regent married to noblesse.
    Finally Kartini’s father then married a descendant of Madura’s King noblewoman named Raden Adjeng Woerjan.
    R.A Kartini was the fifth of 11 siblings, consisting of siblings and half-brother. Nevertheless, she was the oldest of her sisters.
    As derived from the offspring of nobility, Kartini is entitled to receive a decent education. Then, her father sent her to ELS (Europese Lagere School).
    According to Javanese tradition, after the 12 years old, the child should be ‘dipingit‘ (living at home), is no exception for R.A Kartini. However, although she was at home, she still continues to learn.
    Her lofty ideals are eager to see the indigenous women can study and learn as today.
    New ideas about emancipation or equality of indigenous women by her, considered a novelty that can change society’s views.
